Sonography in pregnancy

By using modern ultrasoundtechnique with high resolution we are able to carry out high quality examinations in order to gain very detailed information concerning your unborn child. For more than 20 years diagnosis through ultrasound has been used to monitor pregnancies and no harmful effects could be detected. On the contrary: The parents are able to establish a close relationship to their child already at an early stage of the pregnancy; therefore, a positive course of the pregnancy becomes even more likely. With an early ultrasound exam, it is possible to determine the expected date of delivery very exact. Furthermore, the regular check of the fetal growth can early detect growth retardation and fetal abnormalities. If there is a medical indication, additional ultrasound examinations are made. For example, if an insufficient growth rate is detected or an indication exists of insufficient blood circulation of the child or mother, we can get further information by using a special sonography – the color duplex sonography. With an early measurement of the cervix, we can predict the risk of preterm birth. With our 3D/4D-Ultrasound we can visualize the surface of the baby and can show the face, the extremities and more. With an optimal position of the baby and a good amount of amnion fluid it is sometimes possible to see opening of the eyes and mouth as well as the hands and the movements. Of course, in case of any abnormality as spina bifida or cleft lip a prenatal or postnatal treatment can be planned.

Three screenings

The first screening takes place between the 9th and 12th week of pregnancy. At that stage we can already gain important information concerning the development of your child. The second screening takes place in the 19th–22nd week of pregnancy. Now the internal organs can also be depicted. We have been carrying out the extended basic screening in great detail for years. In the third screening in the 29th–32nd week of pregnancy, the main focus is on the growth of the child. Of course, if you wish, the father of the child can be present at all the examinations. Your partner can be included in all important consultations.
